The Brazoria County Appraisal District (BCAD) has announced an increase in appraised property values for 2023, citing "strong residential market sales in 2022." The deadline for individuals to Protest the increase is May 15, 2023.

In a press release shared on April 13, the BCAD stated that “an increase in appraised property values for 2023 [was] due to the strong residential market sales in 2022” and that “the Property Value Study [was] conducted by the State Comptroller's office, which reported that the district's values were too low and not at market value.”  Read the BCAD's press release in full.

In light of the increase, the BCAD has encouraged homeowners to Protest if they so choose and to speak with an appraiser informally for more detailed information about their property. Property owners may also qualify for certain exemptions that would reduce their tax bill. For example, Manvel residents with disabilities and those 65 years and older are eligible for a $90,000 exemption as voted upon by Council in 2008. Additional tax exemptions may be applicable per State Law. Please note that property owners must file the necessary forms with the BCAD to claim these exemptions.

Homeowners can contact the BCAD at 979‐849‐7792 or visit the district's Property Tax Forms webpage to find both Protest and exemption forms. The BCAD also provides information regarding the rights of property owners on their Property Owner Rights webpage, which includes a Property Tax Protest and Appeal Procedures option that links to the Texas Comptroller's property tax information page.
