The Criminal Investigation Division operates under the supervision of the Detective Sergeant, who reports to the Chief of Police. The purpose of the Criminal Investigation Division is to conduct investigations of reported crimes against persons and/or property, which are out of the scope of the patrol officer function. Detectives gather information, interview witnesses, and prepare accurate reports and documentation for presentation to the County District Attorney for prosecution of crimes investigated. Detectives are also responsible for thorough examination, collection, and documentation of crime scene evidence, used to support the investigation of crimes. The Criminal Investigation Division frequently works with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
